What is the CMA Foundation?

The CMA Foundation was founded as the CMA Holdings Foundation in 2005 and renamed in 2017. Created by the Canadian Medical Association, we provide impactful charitable giving to registered Canadian charities and qualified donees that further excellence in health care. By engaging directly with the organizations we support and focusing on our granting pillars, we ensure our grants deliver maximum value and effect.

How are CMA Foundation funds generated?

The CMA Foundation was endowed by the proceeds of the sale of Saxon in 2005 and is not funded by CMA member dues.

What does the CMA Foundation support?

The CMA Foundation supports physicians through medical education, physician wellness and outreach by granting to registered Canadian charities and qualified donees that further excellence in health care.

How can my organization be considered for a donation?

The CMA Foundation proactively works with medical associations, affiliates and business partners, and does not currently accept unsolicited requests for funding.

Didn’t the CMA already have a Foundation?

Yes. In 2005, the CMA created CMA Holdings Foundation, which, until recently, provided funding to the Canadian Medical Foundation (CMF). In 2017, CMA Holdings Foundation became the CMA Foundation. The CMF is now an entirely independent foundation, and neither the CMA nor the CMA Foundation funds it or has any involvement in its operations.

Does the CMA Foundation offer Donor Advised Funds?

The CMA Foundation no longer offers Donor Advised Fund and instead recommends Aqueduct Foundation, a charitable public foundation which exclusively offers Donor Advised Funds.
