Funding initiatives

Through collaborative relationships, we have provided a number of significant grants that focus on our three pillars: medical education, physician wellness and outreach.

2019

  • $399,500 for the CMA 150th Anniversary Bursaries and Awards Program – providing bursaries and awards to more than 170 students from Canada’s 17 medical schools.
  • $300,000 for the 2019 Healthy Canadians Grants Program – funding innovative grassroots health initiatives that support vulnerable populations and contribute to vibrant and healthy communities across Canada, focused on youth mental health and substance use.
  • $105,000, in partnership with the Association of Faculties of Medicine of Canada (AFMC), to support Stand Up for Indigenous Health, which is the first simulation-based tool for teaching future health care providers the social, physical and mental factors that affect the health of Indigenous people in Canada.
  • $25,000 to the Canadian Women’s Foundation to help women move themselves out of poverty, in commemoration of 2019 International Women’s Day.

2018

  • $399,500 for the CMA 150th Anniversary Bursaries and Awards Program – providing bursaries and awards to more than 170 students from Canada’s 17 medical schools.
  • $150,000 for the 2018 Healthy Canadians Grants Program – funding for 14 innovative grassroots health initiatives that support vulnerable populations and contribute to vibrant and healthy communities across Canada, focused on seniors’ wellness.
  • $12,500 to Ka Ni Kanichihk, an Indigenous centre that recognizes programs and services that focus on wholeness and wellness, helping people to help themselves.
  • $65,000, in partnership with AFMC, to provide travel bursaries for 24 medical students to attend a Wellness Ambassador pre-conference, held in advance of the International Conference on Physician Health.
  • $10,000 to the Canadian Red Cross in support of their Ottawa-Gatineau Tornado Appeal.

2017

  • $399,500 for the CMA 150th Anniversary Bursaries and Awards Program – providing bursaries and awards to more than 170 students from Canada’s 17 medical schools.
  • $60,000 to Tree Canada, to support the planting of healing trees on hospital grounds.
  • $12,500 to Women’s Health Clinic, a feminist, community health clinic that offers a range of services with a holistic approach that emphasizes prevention, education and action.
  • $60,000 for the Resident Doctors of Canada’s new resiliency training program: to their new resiliency training program to support the wellness of medical residents.
  • $20,000 to the Royal University Hospital Foundation – providing immediate disaster-relief support for the hospital staff caring for survivors of the Humboldt Broncos bus tragedy.
  • $50,000 to the Canadian Red Cross, to provide immediate and long-term disaster relief support, including care to Canadians affected by the wildfires in British Columbia.
